A Different Medical Approach to Health Problems

Dr Dee Marshall

MBBS, MFHom

Welcome to my website.

I am a conventionally trained medical doctor, fully registered with the General Medical Council, and I have developed a particular interest in understanding why we get ill, and addressing this through nutrition and lifestyle methods with the minimal use of prescription drugs.

Typically I see patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other digestive disorders, autoimmune illness, some neurological conditions, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. However, I am interested in treating people with any persistent health problems, as it is often the underlying mechanisms for illness that are more important, at an individual level, than the diagnosis itself.

I also provide preconception care for women and their partners who are either finding difficulty conceiving or simply want to be in optimal health for having a baby. This is the best sort of preventative medicine.

Following my interest in this perspective on health, I have gained experience in understanding the key factors in a patient’s history that have lead to their current health problems. Dietary factors and nutritional deficiencies, food allergies and intolerances, inhalant allergies, the effect of chemicals and environmental pollutants, infections, some drug treatments, significant life events, persistent stress and mental health, on the background of an individual genetic picture, are all crucial.

The approach I use combines a detailed clinical assessment, with blood tests and other investigations where indicated. Based on this assessment I suggest a comprehensive, individualised treatment plan. This will usually include guidance on diet, supplements where necessary, lifestyle changes, and recommendations for additional treatments where appropriate. Use of prescribed medication is minimal, and I will recommend using treatments which are supportive to the body’s own capacity for self healing and regulation.
